Amin HMB is useful for the growth and maintenance of muscle mass in individuals with sarcopenia or those who practice sports.
Amin HMB is a dietary supplement composed of ultramicrofiltered protein isolated from whey, free amino acids (L-arginine, L-ornithine alpha-ketoglutarate, L-tryptophan, L-taurine, L-cystine, L-hydroxyproline, and L-citrulline), L-carnitine and coenzyme Q10, vitamin B6, and zinc.
Protein isolate from whey has the highest biological value of any protein; ultramicrofiltration separates fat and lactose from the protein without compromising its quality, resulting in more than 90 percent pure protein.
Protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass and the maintenance of normal bones; it is the major source of building material in our entire body: muscles, internal organs, skin, etc.
Amin HMB contains 0.46 mg (32.8% VNR) Vitamin B6, which is part of the so-called water-soluble vitamins, which cannot be accumulated in the body but must be taken regularly through the diet; it contributes to:
- To normal cysteine synthesis;
- To normal energy metabolism;
- To the normal functioning of the nervous system;
- To the normal metabolism of homocysteine;
- To normal protein and glycogen metabolism;
- To normal psychological function;
- To normal red blood cell formation;
- To the normal function of the immune system;
- To the reduction of fatigue and tiredness;
- To the regulation of hormonal activity.
Amin HMB also contains HMB (hydroxy-methylbutyrate) naturally produced within our body’s muscle from the branched amino acid (BCAA) Leucine, an essential amino acid (i.e., an amino acid that our body is unable to synthesize and therefore must receive through the diet) used for energy purposes during physical exertion and for plastic purposes during the recovery period, which is useful in reducing the breakdown and loss of muscle mass (sarcopenia). Considering that only 5% of Leucine is converted to HMB, a subject would have to take in too much protein through the diet to achieve sufficient amounts of HMB.
Supplementation of protein and/or specific amino acids may be useful to increase muscle mass and function in elderly patients especially those who are bedridden; some studies have shown that in subjects at risk of sarcopenia, characterized by progressive and generalized muscle loss and strength, from which results reduced physical performance caused by inadequate nutrition or malabsorption, physical inactivity, or physiological factors, HMB is a valuable aid in preserving or rebuilding muscle mass in combination with other amino acids and adequate exercise.
In sports subjects, HMB represents a stimulus to protein synthesis by promoting activity-induced muscle development, increases muscle mass (lean mass) at the expense of fat mass, and improves recovery after intense physical exertion by reducing the resulting feeling of fatigue.
In addition to promoting protein synthesis and reducing muscle catabolism, HMB has also demonstrated action in stimulating lipolysis (triglyceride breakdown).
