Potential N Iota: Crataegus laevigata (Poir.), DC., Allium sativum L. and Hibiscus sabdariffa L. contribute to the regularity of blood pressure
Arterial pressure is the force exerted by the blood against the wall of the arteries: when the heart contracts and the blood passes through the arteries, the highest arterial pressure, called “systolic” or “maximum” is recorded; between one beat and another the heart fills with blood and the lowest arterial pressure, called “diastolic” or “minimum” is recorded inside the arteries; when the systolic and/or diastolic values exceed 140 (for the maximum) or 90 (for the minimum), we speak of hypertension.
High blood pressure is therefore a condition characterized by high blood pressure in the arteries, which is determined by the amount of blood that is pumped from the heart and by the resistance of the arteries to blood flow.
Hypertension is a risk factor, i.e. a condition that increases the likelihood of other cardiovascular diseases (for example: angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, stroke).
